The witch welcomes Samhain and treats you to poetry

Waiting for the end of the trick-or-treaters, and the beginning of ritual. 9:00 p.m. is the cutoff...no more answering the door.

I did manage to light a candle and place it out on the balcony to guide the souls of the dead, along with some food to nourish their souls as well.

I've still yet to peek around a door, or look into a mirror to see myself as I will look when I am dead. :-)

There have been plenty of knocks over the last few days in the library where I've been keeping my collection of Ouijas. One particularly jolting one on the glass of a framed picture, hanging next to my PC. Very loud. Lots of rustlings from the closet where some of the Ouijas are stored. Some are out on display, including the one(s) I believe have spirits attached.

To celebrate Samhain, I will post here tonight a collection of my Halloween/Samhain related poetry. I hope you enjoy the poetry, and Samhain's blessings to you. Happy New Year as well my sisters and brothers...

Halloween's Lessons

See the orange of the pumpkins,
Know that Halloween is near,
Feel excitement from the children,
Excitement mixed with enticing fear.

Candy corn and candy apples,
All the treats of old Samhain,
Hanging now the decorations,
Brings of thrill of chill again.

Black and orange crepe streamers,
Hanging all around your home.
Shadows confront secret dreamers,
Samhain brings joys and unknowns.

Witches walk the line of balance,
At that time called old Samhain.
Witches talk both joy and balance,
Balance joy with sorrows' gain.

Greet those who have gone before,
Open your arms and open your doors.
Welcome those you loved in past,
Samhain teaches love will last.

See the orange of the pumpkins,
See the colors of the leaves.
Samhain teaches joy and balance,
Halloween teaches us to believe.

Halloween Spirits

See the sun as it goes down,
On sacred Halloween night,
See the moon as it rises,
And be ready for a fright.

Halloween has always been sacred,
A special night of life meets death,
Time for witches to meet the spirits,
Time for not feeling bereft.

Welcome the spirits at dumb supper,
Leaving plate for those who join.
Spirits still a part of the family,
Still tied to us limb and loin.

Now is the time to ask your questions,
Receiving advice from those gone on.
Know now that they still love you.
Know they will not steer you wrong.

Halloween is so precious a time,
When the veil is oh so thin.
Halloween is most sublime,
Let's let the spirits in.

The Pumpkin, Watching

Tales have been told of livingpumpkins,
Having the spirits invest them for one night,
Each Halloween they possess with fright.

Perhaps you have noticed this too?
Unless you were too afraid to go out,
Maybe you did notice and said nothing,
Perhaps you didn't want old Jack to know?
Knells of death in the dark distance,
In the eyes of the Halloween Pumpkin,
Never too old to taste sweet fear.

Watching, waiting, for a chance,
Alone with those glowing eyes, glance,
Tales have been told of living pumpkins,
Certainly you know of these things?
Halloween is a time for scares,
In his flames you'll see your fears,
Next Halloween is drawing near,
Gnashing teeth with which to tear.

The Colors of Samhain

Orange and purple, red and black,
These are the colors that I take back,
Yellow and gold, in mists foretold,
And green and grey the color of mold.

Orange in flame in jack of same,
Purple of cloak, where magick spoke,
Red of eyes in nighttime bat,
Yellowing eyes in the Samhain cat.

Black enfolds and enshrouds all,
Gold the stars above Witches' Ball,
Orange and gold the withering leaves,
Orange and purple the nighttime breeze.

Brown the leaves crunched underfoot,
Black the cloak the color of soot,
Red the blood that boils within,
Soon the Samhain rites begin.

Yellow light spills from the moon,
Chanting now the witches' rune,
Orange and purple, red and black,
These are the colors that I take back.

Samhain Dreaming

Spirits call to you in dreams at night,
Angels of darkness surrounded by light,
Madness calls and knocks at the door,
Halloween haunts of long ago yore,
Angels of darkness surround, implore,
In the night fiery pumpkins and gourds,
Night of Samhain is waiting, is yours.

Dusty dreams of cobweb spires,
Realms of the dead where soon retired,
Eternities dreaming of ancient rites,
Angels of darkness surrounded by night,
Madness calls and knocks at the door,
In the night fiery pumpkins and gourds,
Night of Samhain is waiting, implores,
Ghosts and spirits at the veil's door.

In the Shadows of Samhain

In your heart you know the truth,
Night falls and you know, forsooth,

This is the time of year that calls,
Hear the music as nighttime falls,
Enter a realm of shadows, all.

Seeker, seeking in the mists,
Have you sought the raven's kiss?
Ancient magicks, bells now rung,
Death's deep realm, darkness begun,
Onward, downward, seeking all,
Wistful of your heeded call,
Soon you'll join the Witches' Ball.

On your own, your secret journey,
Future's path without a worry,

Seeker, seeking in the night,
Achieve within a burning light,
Mortal world soon fades away,
Here in magick realm, will stay,
Achieve within a burning fire,
In your heart, your heart's desire,
Now the shadows soon retire.

Welcome Halloween

Wishes heartfelt on scented night air,
Enter spirits of joy, now fully aware.
Longing for a taste of chill night,
Creatures roam avoiding the light.
Over the world Halloween falls,
Maybe soon you'll hear its call,
Enter the darkness, one and all.

Haunts and spirits now fill the air,
Ancient magicks are everywhere.
Long the night on Hallows Eve,
Listen now and truly believe.
On this night of death's reprieve,
Within your heart, cease to grieve.
Each spirit at dumb supper feeds,
Enters a heart, answers a need,
Now is a time of joy, indeed.
